There's an interesting discussion of the poet's relationship to the "I" around minute 24 (24:30) of this podcast. It's actually in relation to the rapper, and the difference between the rapper's relationship to the "I" as opposed to the poet's. It's interesting. I tried to transcribe it, but my typing skills and recall were put to shame. The whole rap discussion begins at 21:12, and the entire podcast is pretty good if you're interested.
